ATCAS Challenge #40 - TRANSPORT

This card is for ATCAS challenge with the theme of Transport.  I masked an oval image onto a piece of Neenah and then sponged distress ink.  When the ink was completely dry I stamped the silhouette with Versafine and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  The sentiment was stamped but not embossed.  The top layer of card stock was trimmed to 4 x 5 1/4 and then mounted onto a second piece of Neenah with mounting tape.

NBUS Challenge #1 - CELEBRATION

Well isn't this special.  Miss Darnell has so many members in her fan club (500 and growing) that she has begun her first challenge.  As a loyal follower of Darnell who I refer to sometimes as Irma Iowa it is imperative that I submit a card.  The challenge states to choose a NBUS item and I have chosen this adorable Penny Black stamp which has no name.  Personally this stamp is a good representative of Darnell as she is a friend to all (note bird on Kitty's head), a marvelous photographer and pictures of Darnell always show her with a friendly smile.

The challenge suggests your card be in the style you are most comfortable making and for me that is using Copics.  Many of the cards I now make for challenges have little coloring so I am delighted to make a challenge card with coloring.  Also Darnell asks that you write a comment to fellow cardmakers who are participating in this challenge and I think that is a grand idea.

The image was stamped on Neenah paper and colored with Copics.  The top layer was embossed with a Sizzix embossing folder and then I die cut the center.  The sentiment was stamped and mounted onto a snippet of paper.

CASology Week 96 "FLOWER"

This card is for CASology's theme of flower.  The die cut I made previously and it seemed like something I could work with.  First I rubbed SU! purple plum ink on my craft mat and spritzed it with water and then placed a MFT background stamp in the puddle and stamped the image onto SU! whisper white paper.  When the background image was dry I die cut the rectangle with a Lil Inkers die and then stamped the sentiment. The flower was already assembled so I mounted it with mounting tape.  This flower used snippets of paper including plum paper which I had dry embossed with the Swiss Dots embossing folder and a piece of gold and a piece of green.

Addicted to CAS - "Off the Edge" Week 38

It was important to me to submit a card for this particular challenge because Darnell is the guest designer.  Darnell is a special lady and I want to thank her on my blog for e-mailing me and asking if the mister and I were alright during the recent San Diego fires.  Yes we are fine but the Carlsbad fire was about five miles directly south of us.  San Diego is hilly and full of canyons and Santa Ana winds and a severe drought cause havoc.  Our community backs up to a preserve so we too are vulnerable. Ten years ago we had to evacuate our then mountain home and it was the most stressful of times, fleeing the mountain and not sure if we would find our home when we returned.  Anyone who has been faced with fires can never give enough praise to the firefighters.

This is a CAS one layer card.  I was fortunate enough on our recent vacation to visit My Favorite Things in Florida and one of my purchases was this butterfly die.  This card is special because I will be giving it to my granddaughter who graduates from high school next week.  How did that happen?  I had played with the dies and matching stamp set and I was left with open spaces and thus I used that paper as a mask.  On Neenah paper I sponged the butterflies with Distress Ink and when dry I inked and heat embossed the sentiment.

CASology: Week 95 "SPLASH"

The mister and I just returned from a great trip to the south.  Our former neighbors live about 20 miles from Eustis, Florida and lucky me got to pay a visit to My Favorite Things boutique store.  The town of Eustis was very charming and MFT was as cute as one would imagine it to be.  I spent enough money that my purchases were shipped home and they arrived before me.

The two stamps I used for this card I purchased on my journey to MFT.  First I inked the background stamp with distress ink and then spritzed with water and stamped on Neenah paper.  When the ink was dry I stamped the ship image with Versafine and heat embossed.  I chose a sentiment that I felt fit the size of the stamped images.  Before mounting this piece I used a SU! corner punch.  This was a quick card to make and would be easy to repeat with the other two masculine stamps in this set, an old auto and a train engine.

Addicted to CAS: GRUNGE

This is the first time I have submitted two cards to one challenge.  Karen Dunbrook's cards are an inspiration to me and one of her recent cards she used a technique using paint and an embossing folder. I looked at the YouTube instructions (Audrie) and this was one of several pieces of paper I played with.  Another new technique and it was so much fun - try it. 

So first I was fortunate enough to have the supplies: watercolor paper, Distress Paint and Glimmer Mist.  I only had two paints both blue and thought I must have bought them in error because they are paint daubers.  From several years ago I had a box of Glimmer Mist leftover from a class.  I dabbed paint on the embossing folder and spritzed it with Glimmer Mist rather than water and placed the paper inside the folder and lightly tapped.  The look is meant to be blotchy.  When the cardstock was totally dry I stamped and heat embossed the image which is a grunge type stamp.  Then I mounted the watercolor to black cardstock and  Almost Amethyst paper.  This stamp is from Unity's stamp of the week.  I decided to use this card as a sympathy card to a friend who is an artist and I think she will like the uniqueness of this card.

CASology Week 93 - ELECTRIC

I decided to use this NBUS stamplfrom Unity's stamp of the week.  When I die cut I try to center the negative piece and then file it away in a plastic sleeve that way I may have the shape I will need for sponging.  So I found this oval shape and masked the white cardstock and applied SU! daffodil delight ink with a sponge.  When the ink was very dry I stamped the image and sentiment with Versafine and heat embossed.  A snippet of SU! designer paper was stamped with the shade part of the stamp and then I cut the shade and applied it to the lamp.  Using mounting tape I attached this to colored cardstock rather than another piece of white cardstock.  CAS card that came together easily and no goof-ups in the trash.
