While looking through my many stamps yesterday I came upon a coffee set from Paper Smooches and I had the die set too. In my Christmas paper folder I found two plaid papers from SU! and die cut them. The most difficult part of putting this card together was getting a good image of the sentiment, eight tries later and I am still not happy. Oh well! The front panel was attached to a piece of the pink plaid paper and then attached to the base card.

Happy Little Stampers Christmas Challenge SPARKLE

There are times when I lie awake in the wee small hours of the morning thinking about a card, so sometimes I get up and start creating. That is what happened yesterday and my thoughts came together to make yet another Christmas card. I began by using a small heart punch and randomly placed the stars, and it looked okay. Next I stamped the tree with silver ink and heat embossed with clear powder. I attached silver paper to the blue base card and then attached the tree/star image. The inside of the card was stamped and heat embossed and I added a strip of silver paper.

Happy Little Stampers CAS Challenge August "Masking"

This QCAS card is being submitted to Happy Little Stampers CAS challenge with the theme of masking. I began by using the negative piece of  a previously die cut paper and adhered with post-it tape to a piece of white card stock. Ink was sponged on the piece and then I stamped these cute Sandpipers and the sentiment. This piece was attached to a piece of Sahara Sand card stock.

Addicted to CAS: SCHOOL

This card I made especially for DDIL #1, at age 45 she is returning to college to complete her Masters Degree. She stopped to have another baby and now is the time to get back to studying before her credits expire. Her eldest daughter begins her second year of college next month. I also returned to school in my forties when my sons were in high school. My eldest son and I graduated from college at the same time although different schools. This card is my way of letting her know I am proud of her. She is fortunate to have a husband who supports and encourages her.

I chose two NBUS stamps and a NBUS set of watercolor pencils. Kraft paper is one of my favorite looks and I stamped the image and colored with the pencils and then used an aqua painter. The sentiment inside is actual notebook paper.

CAS(E) this sketch! #137

Last week my card making group was making cards with sponged paper and die cuts. One of my friends gave me an interesting piece of natural speckled paper and I sponged it with three colors in  class.  Today I have been trying to clear my desk and finish projects so I decided to use this background paper for the challenge at CAS(e) this Sketch!.

I began by using a snippet of sponged blue paper and a piece of green card stock and die cut the word "happy" twice. I attached these two pieces and then with a heavy hand brushed on two coats of Glitter Glaze. The background paper was cut according to the sketch and then I die cut the leaf. Before attaching the word die I stamped the sentiment and then assembled the two pieces onto a piece of blue card stock.

Happy Little Stampers Sketch Challenge for August

Recently I was instructing some frineds on Copic markers. I am adamant that new card makers not go out and spend a lot of money until they know exactly what peaks their interest. The two ladies had purchased Copics and begun to play with them so I told them I would gladly show them some techniques. This image was to illustrate that you can get by with just one marker. Did that slow them down with their buying frenzy? No. They loved coloring with Copics even more and I doubt they ever used just one Copic, but it can be done and I think it looks good.

This SU! image was stamped twice using Memento ink on Neenah paper and colored with six individual Copic markers. I also colored parts of the lanterns and the ribbon with a silver Gellyroll pen. After trimming the image I attached it to green card stock and stamped the sentiment.

Freshly Made Sketches: #200

This card is for Freshly Made Sketches #200 - congratulations. I sponged confetti cream card stock with three inks. Next I trimmed the paper, cut it and applied to a piece of blue cardstock. The butterfly was in my UFO file and it was not evenly die cut so I trimmed it and applied some more coastal cabana ink and some gellyroll pen. I stamped the sentiment and attached the butterfly with mounting tape.

CASology: Week 160 NUMBER

 

School starts for my grandsons in about two weeks. Jake will begin his second year of Kindergarten (a California thing where you go for two years if your birthday is after a certain date) and then in October he will turn six.  So this is his birthday card. 

I inked the stamp six times and colored with Copics and fussy cut. Next I stamped the sentiment and then attached the line of crayons. The number stamp set I had was too large so I hand wrote the numbers. That is it, pretty easy. Hooray one more birthday card out of the way.

Merry Monday Christmas Challenge #169

This is a NBUS stamp that I have wanted to color and making it into a Christmas card seemed like a great idea to me. The Russian Matryoshka Nesting Dolls are really interesting and one set is made from a single block of wood, if not then the dolls would not fit inside one another. The entire story behind these wooden dolls is really fascinating and it is an amazing craft. When we were in St. Petersburg, Russia about three years ago I only had a few US dollars so all that I could afford to buy with $5 were Matryoshka tooth pick holders and so I bought three one for each daughter in law and myself. The workmanship on this is marvelous and if you did tole painting you know the stroke work is important. Believe me this inexpensive trinket  is not from China.

The card was stamped and heat embossed on Neenah paper and  colored with Copics.  I die cut and then mounted the image on red cs. The base card is two pieces of paper and then a third piece cut with a border punch. The image was mounted and then I added the sentiment.

STAMPLORATIONS BLOG: August Challenge Mid-Month Guest Designer

In June I submitted a card to the Stamplorations Blog with the cue word of Stamps and Washi tape and I was chosen as an Honorable Mention.  Along with that honor was the opportunity to submit a card as a guest designer for the Mid August Stamps and Watercolor challenge.

The process for this card was masking the image with post-it tape onto water color paper and stamping with VersaFine and heat embossing. I sprinkled Scarlet and Purple Brushos onto a large acrylic block. The wc paper was spritzed with water and then I began applying the two colors to the tulip image with more water and a watercolor brush. For the leaves I used distress markers, water and a wc bruch. When the image was completely dry I lightly sponged soft sky ink. The sentiment was stamped with Archival ink. Lastly I mounted the image onto red cardstock and then the white card base.

Following the current sketch I made this card for a special person who has had some health issues lately and I hope this will bring a smile to her face. One thing I really like doing is using up a piece of background paper I have made and this is what this piece is. Now I am not sure of the colors but I did use the Vine Street embossing folder which is one of my very favorites. I die cut this piece mounted it onto green card stock  and then die cut the carnation (NBUS) out of a snippet of textured paper. After assembling these three layers I added the sentiment (NBUS).

CASology: Week 159 AQUATIC

My card making group has been anxiously awaiting the opening of the newest Hobby Lobby and it opens on Monday. But a new big box store in the neighborhood means the smaller businesses close. Once-thriving stamping stores in our area have closed their doors and that is very sad.  The local store I frequented for two years wanted to sell their business and retire but the property owner did not want a craft store in middle of the resort town. Dumb. People came from all over Southern California to buy products, take classes and frequent all the neighbor stores.

 I try to give some of my business to local merchants. Recently I was out of my area and went to a once thriving stamp store in another county. At one time it was in a good location and occupied  two store fronts, then they moved and changed their merchandise to suit the scrapbooker, and now they have moved back to their former location but smaller in size. Their products are a mishmash of items and they had few stamps but I did find this fish stamp and thought it would be fun to watercolor. The writing is on the wall that this stamp store will close its doors also.

I heat embossed the image and used distress ink and markers and an aqua pen. I put glossy accents on the bubbles. After embossing the top layer I die cut the center and put the three layers together. I stamped the sentient and gave it a "fish tail" trimming.

While searching in  my UFO box I found this previously colored image so I decided it would work for the latest challenge at CAS(E) this sketch! The image was stamped and colored with Copics and then I paper pieced the watermelon. I also added some dash lines around the die cut circle. Other than Neenah paper, the rest are snippets and also some washi tape.

Merry Monday Christmas Challenge: PASTELS

I struggle with making Christmas/Holiday cards in the summer but it does give one a head start for the season. Personally I no longer give a lot to friends or family but I do make quite a few that I donate.

For this card I used a stamp from Purple Onion and colored with Copics. I chose two die cuts from MFT and cut the stocking image and the two strips. The background paper is a snippet from my Christmas paper folder and the green and pink are from SU!. I stamped the sentiment and added some Wink of Stella on the tops, heels and toes of the stockings.

This photo was taken on top of our piano and this is the last time I will take a photo in this setting. The piano is going to my youngest son's home and hopefully it will bring his family a great deal of pleasure. As a parent I was always happy that we could provide our sons with piano lessons. Our oldest son still plays and it is wonderful when he comes here and plays for us. But now he will have to do it at his brother's.

CASology: Week 158 PRECIOUS

I had trouble coming up with an idea for this cue word but I was making a get well card for my dear friend using this stamp. Well golly this would work for precious. Why?  Well first of all the image is precious, second the kitty (colored in gray) is like our no-longer-here cat named Mugsy who was very precious. Third my friendship is precious as we have been friends for almost fifty years and we are card-making friends among other things. So this card is headed to Gail who is recovering from oral surgery and is very, very limited in her diet for a whole week. Yuk! I think this Mugsy-type card will bring a smile to her face.

This card is no different than many of my CAS creations heat embossed and colored with Copics, trimmed and mounted onto a second piece of white card stock and a smidge of glossy accents on the flower centers and the bee.

CASology: Week 157 "WINGS" and Card for Alex

This card uses two die cuts and some brusho colored background paper. I die cut the solid die and then used wink of stella, and then die cut the cut out butterfly die from the same paper. Next on a piece of white textured paper I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment and the flight lines and attached the butterfly.  This was attached with mounting tape to a piece of white cs.

I read on a SCS post of a nine year old boy who is recovering in the hospital with burns over at least 50% of his body. His aunt is requesting cards sent to him to cheer him up. Making and sending cards to hospitalized and seriously ill people is what keeps me happy and my way of paying it forward. My eldest grandson will turn nine on Tuesday so this story is even more touching to me. I am sending my card to:
