CASOLOGY: Week 102 "FLOAT"

Have you ever awoken too early in the morning thinking about a card design? Such was yesterday for me and I could not go back to sleep so I got up and began creating. My original design changed a little but two attempts is probably not bad. 

I chose this cute duck and I inked, embossed and colored with copics and then die cut the circle. Finding the "right" embossing folder from my vast collection (I am not kidding) was more difficult. I came across this NBUS folder which was part of a set of four. I found them on sale at Michael's and there is also a cartridge for the Cricut. Silly me ordered the cartridge but have yet to use it and haven't used the Cricut for over three years. But the embossing folders were a good deal. This folder looks like waves and if you turn it upside down it could be trees. I trimmed the embossed sheet and then mounted little ducky with mounting tape.

Unless I am using a card for my own personal use I do not stamp the inside because my cards are donated to charitable groups who like the inside blank. This card dictated I complete the inside because the sentiment is so cute. The sentiment was stamped in black but Ducky was stamped in London Fog and then I added a strip of Washi tape.

SEIZE THE SKETCH #23

I made this card for Seize the Sketch. The image was stamped, heat embossed and colored with copics.  This pieced was die cut as was a piece of swiss dot embossed yellow paper. SU! DSP was used as the base and this was wrapped with baker's twine. Using mounting tape I attached the lamb to the base card. Enamel dots were placed on the centers of the flowers and randomly on the sentiment piece.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY IRMA IOWA

Happy Birthday Irma Iowa

This is a special card for a very special lady our own Darnell Knauss.  At first I called her Miss Iowa because she was born in the same area as my mister.  As time went on I called her Irma because I view her as our generation's Irma Bombeck.  No, she is card making bloggers Irma B., but I think she can have a new career.  I think all of us would agree she is "laugh out loud funny" and that is what the inside of the card says. Darnell is there for all of us and is so encouraging, sweet and kind.  Not that other card makers aren't just as kind but I think of Darnell as Miss Congeniality.  I guess that is enough accolades for the birthday girl although there is much more I could say.  So Miss Darnell (aka Irma Iowa) wishing you the happiest of birthdays and I know this will be one special day for one special lady.

CASology - Week 101 WOOD

This is a card I made for CASology with the cue word of Wood.  I chose this birdhouse and the sentiment because son #1 and family are moving shortly to a new home.  The first thing I did was stamp the house onto a piece of wood designer paper and heat embossed.  I also stamped the entire image onto a piece of white cardstock and glued the two pieces together because the dsp was thin.  The roof was was stamped and fussy cut and attached to the house.  A piece of kraft paper was die cut with LI rectangle and then I stamped the birds at the top.  The sentiment was stamped and heat embossed on the the kraft card base.  I mounted the house onto the smaller piece of kraft paper.

Addicted to Clean and Simple - SUN

This card is for ATCAS with the cue word of Sun.  I do not profess to take great photos for card challenges but they are okay.  One thing I do need is sun.  Today the sun came out at 4 pm and in Southern California this is known as June Gloom.  The card use materials from four different companies starting with the base layer which was embossed with a Sizzix folder and then two tags topped with a die cut sun.  The sentiment was stamped and heat embossed.

CASology: Week 100 CELEBRATE

 

Many years ago I became fast friends with three other women through our work with our children's PTA.  We served on committees together, did paper drives, made cookies and soon joined a bunco group.  When I stopped playing bunco because I returned to college (by then both boys were in high school) we got together for our birthdays.  One thing we did have in common is we were all the same age and soon we turned 40, then 50 and now a really big milestone.  So having said that this card will go to the first in this group of friends who turns this number (shhhh! 70).  I did not take a photo of the inside of the card but it reads, "Some days ya gotta but on your boots and just dance - happy birthday."  She will love this card as she is one of my friends who loves any card I send her and we all know how good that makes us feel.  Personally I don't think my friends and myself look our age, not like my mother's generation.  Let's face it girls always want to have fun.

My usual routine is stamping with Versafine and heat embossing on Neenah paper.  I like doing this for most stamped images because it is more vibrant.  Then I colored with copics and a little At You Spica markers.  The corners were punched with a SU! corner punch no longer made and then I mounted the image onto a second piece of Neenah.

P. S. Congratulations to the CASology team of designers for making this such a fun challenge to enter. I am certainly not the cardmaker I was a year and half ago and looking back at my first cards is pretty funny and sometimes I feel like deleting them, but I won't because they are a learning tool. Seize the Birthday - Summertime

I am spreading my wings and submitting to more than just a couple of challenges.  This card is for Seize the Birthday with the topic of Summertime.  So what a great way to start summer with a string bikini and a glass of lemonade.  There was a time when I would have worn a bikini (string was not invented) but those days are looooong gone.  Nowadays you will not see me in a swimsuit unless I need to be in the pool for physical therapy, it is dark outside and no one is around but me and the mister.  I am serious.

The image was stamped on Neenah and colored with Copics and At You Spica.  I used Nestabilites circle die for the image and the mat.  A second piece of Neenah was dry embossed with the newer SU!/Sizzix folder Decorative Dots, this was trimmed and the bottom corners rounded.  I attached the bikini image with mounting tape.  The sentiment was stamped and matted. Lastly I attached the embossed piece to a piece of Pretty in Pink cardstock.
