CASology: Week 78 DOT

Hello and Happy New Year!  It has been about a month and half since I have posted on my blog.  First I wanted a rest from Christmas cards and then I came down with a respiratory infection which lasted about three weeks.  During the course of coughing I came to the conclusion that I was allergic to my new leather chair which I had had for five months.  The chair was returned to Costco and now I am on my way to feeling good and it is time to make some cards.

This first card of the year 2014 almost coincides with my very first card challenge, which was CASology, dated January 13, 2013.  The cue word of dot made me think of this cute stamp set from Our Craft Lounge.  There are dots in the actual stamp image and the bubbles are dots.  The image was stamped on Neenah paper with Versafine and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  The dot/bubbles were stamped off before stamping and I used Memento.  All the images were colored with copics.  The colored image was reduced in size and I rounded the bottom corners and then mounted with mounting tape onto a second piece of Neenah paper.

With crossed fingers I hope this gets posted.  My last two entries last year were totally goofed up and the CASology post I doubt got posted but the one for ATCAS was posted.  I really have struggled with Blogger and Internet Explorer and then switched to Mozilla Firefox and kept getting cookie notices.  Apparently many people have had this problem and if that is not bad enough the dang Yahoo (P.U.) continues to change the format and I don't know how to get around the changes.  Tuesday I am going to my computer lab for some Help!.

This card was made for ATCAS and the theme is pet.  When I first took a class using copics the instructor had a card made with this image, and I loved it.  Honestly it makes me smile as the image is so happy.  First I stamped and heat embossed the image and then colored the entire image using copics, but I chose to center on the faces only.  The very top layer was embossed with a folder with tiny hearts and then I die cut the opening.  The two pieces were attached and then I attached them to a third piece of cardstock using mounting tape.  I die cut the sentiment flag and stamped the verbiage and attached a lone touch of bling.

CASology: Week 72: SHOP

Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Black Friday.  So the cue word for CASology this week is SHOP.  Yeah, I love to shop.  Even grocery shopping works for me.  People say my frig and cupboards are always full of food.  Funny I rarely cook anymore.  Even yesterday, Thanksgiving, we went out to eat.  No one was here but the mister, the dog and moi.  Today I had leftovers from last night and they were almost as good.  One set of kids came by and then headed to the in-laws.   Actually I love when my entire family is here but that won't be happening this holiday season.  Thank goodness for face time as it keeps us in touch and we can see one another.

The card.  First the stamp is one of several in a set from Our Craft Lounge (no longer in business).  I stamped this bag five times and made a mask to reposition the layout.  I used a copic liner pen and made some designs on two of the bags and on one stamped a tiny heart.  The bags were colored with copics.  This piece of paper was mounted onto kraft paper and then mounted onto another piece of white cardstock.  The sentiment was cut so that flop! would appear to be dropping and I stamped it and then heat embossed.

My two daughters-in-love have birthdays next month and I will give them gift cards.  Cheryl of Paperie Journey on her November 4 post mentioned a gift card holder from PTI, so I purchased one.  When I was making the above card of course it was not done quickly and I had another colored image finished so I played with the gift card holder and came up with the image below.  I cut this using the Cuttlebug but it did not fit perfectly so I had to re-adjust the paper and die to get a complete cut.

CASology: Week 71: BELL

This card was made for Week 72 at CASology.  The cue word is bell and I searched through my stash of stamps and found two.  The first stamp was two bells and although I worked on an idea it was nothing special.  My second choice was this old SU! stamp with a bell tower.  This colored image was my fifth attempt, four were on water color paper, one was stamped with gray ink on white cardstock and this piece was stamped on glossy paper using Stazon.  Next I colored using SU! markers and a water brush, and die cut with MFT pierced square.  The white cardstock was dry embossed using Cuttlebug's Script folder and I attached the colored image using pop-ups.  My base cardstock is SU! tempting turquoise.

Last week my MOJO was missing with the cue word of triangle.  I worked on four different ideas and they all stunk - really.  When I viewed the winning entries all I could think is why was I struggling.  The answer: the time change.  Really, I am still struggling with the dang time change, this body is too old to go back and forth and it is almost as bad as coping with jet lag.  Even though this card did not come easy I am satisfied and I have always loved this very old SU! set.

Addicted to CAS: Happy Anniversary to US!!



Happy First Anniversary ATCAS!  This card was made just for this challenge but I will share it with our dearest friends who celebrate their 35th anniversary next month.  Masking and using distress inks is my latest favorite stamping technique and thus this card.  After masking I applied the ink in a circular motion and let it dry before stamping randomly the flower image and heat embossing.  Next I stamped the sentiment and heat embossed.

COMMENT:  Recently someone commented on a blog they did not like to heat emboss but I do like it because images stand out.  Now embossing powder can be messy and sometimes there can be an accident, such as this morning.  I finished two cards to submit to challenges and I knocked over my container of embossing powder, not onto my work table, but onto the carpet which only last week had been professionally shampooed.  Quick get the vacuum.

MUSE Challenge #42

I made this card for MUSE's Challenge #42 and I followed the layout.  First I embossed one piece of perfect plum cardstock with Cuttlebug's Swiss Dots and die cut it and two more pieces of pp cs using MFT numbers and the three pieces were glued together.  Next I attached two different pieces of perfect plum DSP  to one another.  I laid out the numbers and the paper strip onto white cardstock before adhering them so I could line up the sentiment.  Of course it took three tries to get the sentiment correct before it was heat embossed.  Then I assembled the numbers and the paper strip onto the white background paper.
Note:    Fifty two years ago I met a girl walking home from high school and we realized we were in typing class together.  We became fast friends and she was an important part of my teenage years.  Our birthdays are four days apart (and one year) and we have sent one another gifts and cards all this time.  This is Dodie's 70th birthday (not mine yet) and this card will go to her - a special card for a special friend.  She loves purple and decorates her home in an eclectic style so I found this zany art piece at a boutique to send her and I am letting you take a peek.

CASology: Week 69: BROWN

 

Week 69 of CASology has the cue word brown.  I chose this Unity stamp set of the week and stamped the turkey image onto Neenah paper.  The bird, legs, shoes and hat band were colored with copics.    I stamped the feathers in five different papers and the hat and bow two more making a total of seven paper scraps each feather was cut and glued in place.  I then fussy cut Mr. Turkey and attached it to kraft paper using mounting tape.   The verbiage was stamped and heat embossed, Martha Stewart bakers twine was tied on the top and the bottom corners were punched using a corner punch.  It took me a couple stabs at coming to this finished piece but a white background paper was boring.
